Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension (DLLE)

I) Introduction:

The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension (DLLE) was started on October 12, 1978. It became a statutory department of the University of Mumbai in 1994. The department works to connect students and society. It believes in the idea of “Reach to Unreached” and helps students grow in all areas by combining studies with social work.

As per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, DLLE runs various programs. These programs give students real-life experience and help them improve their skills, become employable, do research and become responsible citizens.

II) Objectives:

To develop a meaningful rapport between the university and the community.
To provide academic and technical support for community-based learning.
To promote employability, entrepreneurship and soft skill development.
To sensitize students to socio-cultural realities.
To encourage socially committed and responsible citizenship.

III) Scope & Participation at University level:

1.Over 36,000 students from 361 colleges in six districts (Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg) participate annually.

2.More than 700 trained extension work teachers and field coordinators facilitate projects at college and community levels.

IV) Activities under taken under DLLE Co-Curricular (CC) Activities:

In this DLLE Co-Curricular (CC) Major Extension Projects and Activities for Assessment have been included as per the requirement of the course.

I)Internal Assessment (20 Marks):
Anyone activity from the following is selected for the students to be done by them. Its evaluation and marking is a part of internal assessment.

1)Street plays, poster exhibitions, rallies, and surveys.
2)Talks, seminars, debates, and community awareness drives.
3)Career and skill exhibitions.
4)Research-based field work and social outreach.

II)External Assessment (30 Marks):
Anyone activity from the following is selected for the students to be done by them. Its evaluation and marking is a part of External assessment.

A)Vocational Career-Oriented Projects-

1.Career Project (CP): Career exploration through interviews, exhibitions and presentations.
2.Anna Poorna Yojana (APY): Small business and entrepreneurship skills through food and product sales.
3.Industry Orientation Project (IOP): Real-world industry experience and project-based internships.
4.Skill Development Project (SDP): Enhancement of communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

B)Community-Oriented Projects-

1.Population Education Club (PEC) – Activities on social issues such as women’s rights, environment and health.
2.Survey Research – Field research on relevant local community issues.
3.Education for All (EFA) – Promotion of Open and Distance Learning through NIOS and IDOL.
4.Environment Education Project (EEP) – Campaigns and surveys focused on environmental conservation.
5.Civic Sense (CEP) – Activities promoting responsible and ethical behavior in public life.
6.Consumer Guidance Project (CGP) – Awareness on consumer rights and duties under the Consumer Protection Act.
