Department has organized Workshop on “Fruit processing and preservation” of summer fruits in Konkan under Entrepreneurship and Skill Development program on 3rd, 4th and 5th May, 2017. 12 Students participated in this workshop and learnt preparation of 12 different products from Mango, Kokum, Karvanda, Jambhul etc.
Department conducted “Certificate course in Simple techniques of Plant Propagation” from September-January 2017-18 under Entrepreneurship and Skill Development program. The basic aim was to provide basic hands on training of preparation of plantlets of different plants by using different types of propagules so that they can try to develop the nursery in future. 27- F. Y. B. Sc. Students completed this course.

Department of Botany organized a program in collaboration with Social forestry department a field visit and discussion on occasion of International Forest Day at Late Uttamrao Patil Jaiva vividhata udyan, Khanu. F.Y. B.Sc. Botany students participated in this program.
Competitions organized
Department of Botany organized a poster presentation and PowerPoint presentation competition on 1st March 2019 on subject “Herbs used in cosmetics”.
In poster presentation competition 21 students in 12 teams took part and in power point presentation competition 11 students in 9 teams participated. Judging was done by Dr. Smita Gore, Dr. Madhura Mukadam and Prof. G. S. Kulkarni.

Organization of World Forest Day with Social Forestry Department At Late Uttamrao Patil Biodiversity Park Khanu 21st March 2018
Department of Botany organized, Nature-walk open for all citizen with Paryavaran Sanstha, Ratnagiri to observe Monsoon Flora at Lakshmi Nagar, Vimantal Plateau near Ratnagiri on 19 August 2018 where more than 100 participants enjoyed the nature walk.
World environment day-5th June–
On the occasion Two days National virtual Conference was organized on 5th and 6th June 2020 on the theme ‘Biodiversity and sustainable development’ report of which is given separately.
World Mangrove day – 26th July –
On this occasion the department has conducted an online quiz for the students of our college in which 87 students participated. E-Certificates were issued to the participants who had scored more than 50% marks.
On 1st August a virtual lecture was delivered by Dr. Mangal Patwardhan on ‘Mangroves – Strugglers in Nature’ which was also uploaded on the facebook page of the department.
World Wetland Day- 2nd Feb 2021–
Online lecture on Google meet of Mr. Vishal Magdum, Director ‘Tropical forestry and Biodiversity Research Centre’ and alumni of our college, on ‘Riparian zone as wetland’ was organized to explain the riverside area as the wetlands. The lecture was followed by the visit to riparian wetland at Pomendi on 3rd Feb 2021 between 9.00 am to 12.00 noon where Mr. Vishal Magdum showed and explained the locations and development of riparian wetlands on site. 25 students and 4 faculty members enjoyed the field visit by following the restrictions and regulations of pandemic COVID 19.
National Science day, 28th February 2021
On this occasion the department had developed a science online quiz having questions related to science day and light in relation to plants. The quiz was open from 28th February to 2nd March for all students from our college as well as other colleges. We received good responses from the students. Students of colleges from Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, J and K etc participated in this online quiz. Total students participated is 795 from more than 80 colleges and 5 universities. Students scoring marks above 50% were given e- certificates.
On 28th February the department had started the ‘You-tube’ channel named ‘Gjc Botany’ to spread scientific knowledge among students and the entire community. The first video uploaded is on the ‘Celebration of National Science Day 2021’. Henceforth the uploading of videos will be a continuous process.
International Forest Day
21st March 2021, is the International Forest Day. On this occasion, on 20th March, Prof. Sharad Apate delivered a lecture on “Floral diversity of Konkan” for F.Y., S.Y., T.Y.B.Sc. Botany students.
The field visit on the occasion of World forest day was jointly organised with Social forestry, Ratnagiri, on 22nd March 2021 at Shri Uttamrao Patil Biodiversity Park, Khanu, Ratnagiri. Thirteen students from S.Y.B.Sc and T.Y.B.Sc. participated in the program accompanied by Prof. Sharad Apate and Dr. Sonali Kadam. Wanpal of social forestry, Mr.Subhash Nachankar accompanied and guided the students about nursery care and development for the forest saplings.
